Apple and Android Compatibility

Use of our Butterfly iQ app on a compatible mobile device is necessary to use the Butterfly iQ. The Butterfly iQ probe comes with either a Lightning or USB-C connector, and is compatible with iPhones, iPads, and Android devices. Below is the list of compatible mobile devices.

Apple iOS

The Butterfly iQ app is available on Apple iOS 11.0 or newer. We are not compatible with beta versions of iOS.

All supported iPhones use the Lightning connector cable.

  • iPhone 6s
  • iPhone 6s Plus
  • iPhone SE
  • iPhone 7
  • iPhone 7 Plus
  • iPhone 8
  • iPhone 8 Plus
  • iPhone X
  • iPhone XS
  • iPhone XS Max
  • iPhone XR
  • iPhone 11
  • iPhone 11 Pro
  • iPhone 11 Pro Max

We support devices that have the A9 processor or newer in order to ensure that your imaging experience will suit your clinical needs. As a result, the Butterfly iQ won’t work on the older iPad mini.

iPads (Lightning):

  • iPad 5th gen
  • iPad 6th gen
  • iPad Pro 12.9" 1st or 2nd gen
  • iPad Pro 9.7"
  • iPad Pro 10.5"
  • iPad mini 5th gen
  • iPad Air 3rd gen

iPads (USB-C):

  • iPad Pro 12.9" 3rd gen
  • iPad Pro 11"

All listed Android devices are compatible with the Butterfly iQ with USB-C connectivity.

Google Devices

Use of the Butterfly iQ with the Google Pixel requires Android version 10 or newer.

  • Google Pixel 3
  • Google Pixel 3 XL
  • Google Pixel 4
  • Google Pixel 4 XL

Samsung Devices

Use of the Butterfly iQ with Samsung mobile devices requires Android version 9 or newer.

  • Samsung Galaxy S10 US Edition (Models SM-G973U & SM-G973U1)
  • Samsung Galaxy S10+ US Edition (Model SM-G970U)
  • Samsung Galaxy S10e US Edition (Model SM-G970U)
  • Samsung Galaxy S9
  • Samsung Galaxy S9+
  • Samsung Galaxy Tab S6
We perform extensive hardware verification including benchmarking, and the Samsung Galaxy S10 International variant device was unable to achieve the transfer rate cutoff over USB for clinical imaging. As a result, we currently only support the Galaxy S10 US Editions. The gap is close and we are working on a solution.
