Making Annotations

You can add up to five annotations on any frozen image. To add annotations during live imaging, tap the snowflake icon to freeze the image and display the annotation tools.

Note that annotations are not available on cines, and annotations made in app cannot be edited once uploaded to Butterfly Cloud.

To perform a linear measurement:

  1. Select the snowflake to freeze the image.
  2. Select the Actions button.
  3. Select the line tool under the measurement section.
  4. Select the blue circles to drag the yellow cross-hairs to the start and end positions of your measurement. As you manipulate the ends of the line, the length (in centimeters) is displayed in a box at the bottom of the image. You can drag this box to the desired location on the image.
  5. To add another line, select the Annotation button and select the line symbol again. The next line is displayed in a different color and has a letter next to it. You can add up to four linear measurements to each image.
  6. To delete a line, select the line or the line's measurement. Select the X next to the corresponding numeric measurement display, and select Delete Line to confirm.

To perform an ellipse measurement:

  1. Select the snowflake to freeze the image.
  2. Select the Actions button.
  3. Select the ellipse tool under the measurement section.
  4. Touch and drag the caliper icons to scale and rotate the ellipse. A box with the ellipse's circumference and area (displayed in centimeters and square centimeters) is displayed in a box at the bottom of the image. You can drag this box to the desired location on the image.
  5. To delete an ellipse, select the ellipse or the measurement value and tap the X next to the corresponding numeric measurement display. Select Delete Ellipse to confirm.

  5. Either select a pre-configured annotation or, use the keyboard to type the annotation.
  6. On your mobile device keyboard, select Done.
